The British Business Group held its 22nd Annual Christmas Party Saturday, 8 December at the Hyatt Kishmish Hall with more than 400 members and guests. Guests were treated to Christmas carols sung by the Caspian Choir. Our favourite Georgian band, Vakis Parki entertained the crowd until the early morning hours with a special appearance from Nick Nicotre.

Dreamland Golf Club were delighted to host the July British Business Group meeting along with the annual BBG Golf Tournament (the longest running golf event in Baku). With 100 attendees, the evening offered the opportunity for people to try their hand at golf with a range of fun tournaments and challenges. The team of PGA Professionals awarded prizes for the Dream Putt - Anar Abdullayev Dream Drive - Vugar Jafarov and Dream Pitch - Max Venturelli at the evening dinner hosted at the newly opened Dreamland Golf Hotel. The battle for the Champion BBG Golfer of the year was closely fought with a tie for the 2019 title. After a point’s count back we are delighted to announce Bruce Bisset as the winner. The on course skills prizes were won by John Quinn with his Nearest the Pin on hole 5, whilst Wade Droney had the Longest Drive on hole 4. Etihad Airways prize ticket went to Yunis Salayev. In summing up the event, John Patterson OBE, Chairman of the BBG thanked everyone for their attendance not least the outgoing British Ambassador Dr Carole Crofts who has attended the business group throughout her tenure in Baku.

The BBG Monthly Members Meeting took place at Four Seasons Hotel Baku. EY are celebrating 25 years in Azerbaijan and laid on a Sparkling Wine Reception as well as presented the annual Robin Bennett Award. The BBG Committee nominated HE Dr Carole Crofts, Her Majesty's Ambassador to Azerbaijan as 2019 Robin Bennett Award winner for her immense contribution in development of UK-Azerbaijan relations.

Robin Bennett OBE, 1942-2011, was one of the founders of the BBG Azerbaijan, which he went on to chair for 10 years, developing the Baku business world with his sought-after experience and knowledge. He came to Baku as a Managing Partner of EY, with whom he enjoyed a long and successful career, after which he set up the Azerbaijani branch of Moore Stephens.
